In this fun class, students not only learn foundational drawing and painting skills, but they also develop their own personal styles and artistic voices. The curriculum of this process-based course evolves from individual students’ needs and strengths. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Students use a variety of materials, including graphite, sumi inks, colored pencils, acrylic, and watercolor. Technical skills are taught in concrete, brief, user-friendly lessons that allow students to apply what they learn right away. We’ll start with the core ideas of Visual Literacy: students not only learn to “read,” images, but they begin to develop their own visual languages. Specific skills and techniques may include: drawing human proportions; creating the illusion of space; and using color theory and light logic. Students will complete the class with a portfolio of original drawings and paintings.
